St. Charles Seminary was certainly happy to commence the academic year of 2023-24. The resident students arrived at the seminary by 16th June 2023. There was a five days annual retreat preached by Rev.Fr.Jenson Chenthrappinny M.S., the provincial superior of Missionaries of our Lady of La Salette, which helped the brothers to begin the academic year on a truly spiritual note.
On 24th June 2022, the Seminary had its inaugural mass and ceremony of 2023-24. The seminary invited all the students both residents and non-residents as well as the fathers from various study houses to participate in the Holy Eucharist. On that day, at 8 a.m. the votive mass of the Holy Spirit and the solemnity of the Nativity of St John the Baptist was celebrated. The Eucharist was presided over by Most Rev. Elias Gonsalves, the Archbishop of Nagpur, and was con-celebrated by Staff members, Rectors of the Study houses, and Superiors of the houses. The archbishop prayed for the seminary staff and students. He gave a thought-provoking and challenging homily in which he emphasized the challenges of the formation because of the mission ahead.
Soon after the Holy Mass and refreshments the fathers and students went to the seminary auditorium for the inaugural ceremony. The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp, while the brothers sang a prayer song. Dn. Anil Thambi S.A.C. welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha O.P. the Rector of the Seminary read out the Annual report of 2022-23. There was an inaugural lecture on “A Thematic and Exegetical Study of the Moral Teachings in the Catholic Epistle of James” by Fr. Joshua Joseph O.P. The entire gathering acknowledged the scholarly and scientific presentation of the paper. Most Rev. Elias Gonsalves, the Archbishop of Nagpur addressed the students and spoke about the challenges the world facing today, changes in the world, and how we have to react to it. Soon after the message by the archbishop, a vote of thanks was proposed by Dn. James Ekka, the general prefect. The inaugural function was concluded with the seminary anthem.
