Inauguration of the New Academic Year 2021-22

The new academic year, 2021-22, of St Charles Seminary was virtually inaugurated on 10th July 2021 at 7.30 a.m. with a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration invoking the Holy Spirit. The Archbishop of Nagpur, Most Rev. Elias Gonsalves presided over the celebration. The Archbishop, who is also the President of the Seminary, in his homily exhorted everyone to be servant leaders after the example of Jesus Christ our Divine Master. He also wished all success and blessings to the Rector, Staff and Students during the new academic year. He stressed the importance of Seminary in the life of the Archdiocese and in the life of the Church at large.

The new Rector of the Seminary Rev. Fr. Aquin Noronha took charge of the seminary from the outgoing Rector Rev. Fr. Peter Mendonsa during the Eucharistic celebration by making the profession of faith. Four of the new staff members (Fr. Naveen Saldanha O.P., Fr Vinoy Payikkattu O.P., Fr Joshua Jospeh O.P., Fr Saju Kochuparambil O.P.) also made their profession of faith and enrolled themselves into the Seminary Staff. After the Eucharistic celebration the outgoing Rector thanked everyone who helped him to carry out his administration well during last six years and he wished the new rector all the very best. The new Rector in his first address to the congregation said, how God’s will works wonders in our lives when we adhere to it though the instrumentality of our superiors. He also expressed his ardent desire for the brothers to be back to the seminary, so that we can work together and progress in their priestly formation. He ended his address by expressing the love and concern the seminary staff has for the students saying, “Brothers we love you…” A melodious and heavenly choir was conducted by the Dominican Brothers from St Dominic’s Ashram for the Eucharistic celebration. Due to the Covid restrictions there was a small number of participants for the Inaugural Eucharist. The ceremony was live streamed on YouTube as well as Divine Word TV Channel, and was witnessed by the Bishops, Ex-Carolians, students, benefactors and well-wishers from various parts of the world.
