The Dominican motto: ‘Benedicere, Laudare, Praedicare’ (to bless, to praise and to preach), which grew out of St. Dominic’s commitment to contemplative prayer and preaching of the Gospel, is his gift to the Church. St. Charles Seminary is blessed to have Dominicans as its formators since 1959. The spirituality of St. Dominic, especially, fraternal life, assiduous study, contemplative prayer and doctrinal preaching inspire the brothers in formation.
St. Charles Seminary celebrated the feast of St. Dominic, the founder of the Order of Preachers, very solemnly on 8th August. Prior to the feast there was a triduum in which the novena prayer in honor of St. Dominic was recited by the entire Carolian Family. Fr. Charles Savarimuthu O.P. was the main celebrant of the solemn Eucharist. The other staff members concelebrated. Fr. Thomas Puthuparambil, O.P. in the homily focused on one each of St. Dominic’s achievements, virtues and examples, namely, forming a Preaching Clergy, Love for Truth and Spontaneous Compassion. Fr. Thomas explained how St. Dominic lived these values in his life, inspired his brethren in the Order, their relevance today in the Church and the challenge in-front of us in this period of formation. At the end of the Holy Mass there was a procession to the statue of St. Dominic in the courtyard of the Seminary. The spiritual celebration ended with singing of Salve Regina and O Lumen.
