The Report of Gandhi Jayanthi Extension Lecture

The Carolian Theological Forum organized a lecture on 2nd October 2021, the Gandhi Jayanthi day, in St. Charles auditorium. The talk was on the topic “The Serious Human Rights Concerns and Situation in Afghanistan.” Fathers and brothers from other study houses were invited for the event. The program began by receiving gladly the resource person, Fr. Sunil Tirkey O.P., who is specialized in Islamic studies. Third year theology brothers led the prayer session in a creative way and provided a spiritual and peaceful atmosphere in the auditorium. Passages from different Holy Scriptures were read, followed by the floral homage to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi.

Having invoked the name of God and paid our respects to the father of the nation, Fr. Sunil O.P, the resource person, was introduced to the gathering and invited him to deliver the lecture. In his lecture, Fr. Sunil highlighted the current crises in Afghanistan and the reasons for the political unrest and problems. Moreover, he emphasized on the pressing issues, such as poverty, unemployment, struggle of women, flight of people in Afghanistan under Taliban regime and how the human rights are violated every day. Another enlightening element of his address was the hypocrisy and partiality of mass media in reporting as there are distortions of truth.

At the end of the lecture the floor was open for the public interaction. Fathers and brothers actively participated in the interaction by raising questions and asking for more clarification on certain aspects. Fr. Sunil answered their questions and cleared the doubts in a scholarly way. At the end of the interactions Fr. Aquin Noronha, the Rector felicitated Fr. Sunil for his marvelous lecture, followed by that vote of thanks by Bro. Roy Tomy, the secretory of CTF. The program ended by singing CTF anthem by 2nd year theology students.
